did this a while ago, thought it was about time we did it again. Make a North Island V South Island XV and Bench. For an extra challenge try whip up a 'left overs' team with players that don't feature in your 22s. Base it on the Air New Zealand Cup teams.

Thomas Waldrom is way better than Rodney at the moment. Mils isn't required on the bench, wanted a bit more spark for the last 15 which is more likely to come from Ranger

So some strong similarities in our North and South teams, who do you reckon would win?

Front Row, North would be stronger
North have the better Locks
Loose forwards definitely South
half back would be pretty even
fly half definitely South
Easily North in the Centers and Back 3.

All up I think North would win, but it would be an epic battle that could go either way, especially considering South have two of the best players in the world (Carter and McCaw) in there side.

Agree that Mils probably isnt an ideal bench player.

But no way in hell does a rookie like Guilford deserve a spot in the starting lineup ahead of a 80 test veteran like Mils.

Unless you somehow think that scoring a few tries in the U20 WC and ANZ championship somehow supercedes years of performance at test level

I just dont think Mils is in good form at the moment and is taking as much time off as possible suggests he doesnt have his heart in it and is doing the bare minimum, would rather have someone hungrier like Guildford in there

Agree his test form wasnt the best. But the same could be said for the majority of the All Black squad. Nonu, Woodcock and even McCaw, they all performed well below previous test seasons.

But Mil's S14 season was oustanding, both as player and captain.

Hunger and enthusiasm are important for sure, but I'd back Muliaina's class and experience over that anytime.

Woodcock was the only one from that one that could be classed as out of form as Mils. McCaw was still an absolute star in the tri nations and Nonu did fine

I'd have to disagree there.

McCaw was shaded by Smith in Auckland (albeit his first game in 8 weeks) and even Brussouw held his own in the following 2 games in SA where we got overrun at the breakdown. McCaw finished on a good note but took time to get there. Which is only natural I guess but at no stage did he totally dominate like he did in Auckland and Cape Town last year.

Nonu did nothing till the last game in Wellington. He offered bugger all while playing outside Donald and McAlister and it wasnt till Carter finally came back in the last two games that he started to produce anything like his 08 form. His try in Wellington was one of the few clean line breaks he made all series.

But in any case, it doesnt change the fact that as a team, the AB's had a very average season, so Mils certainly wasnt alone.

Chuck Scott Hamilton on the other wing, somewhat disagree with Lauaki. He did deserve the call-up wasn't till he actually played for the ABs we found out how wrong that decision was. Casey Laulala could easily take the center spot. I'll try fill the gaps soon.

Here is a list of others that could be considered:

Ross Filipo
Kevin Senio
Paul Steinmetz
Steven 'master' Bates
Daniel Braid
Derren Witcombe (to make matters worse, he was born in Tasmania)
Bryn Evans
Saimone Taumoepeau

Well based on your argument (which I actually agree with) then Laulala would be in the same boat.

Had forgotten about Hamilton - blocked him out Smile

Interesting - see I don't necessarily know who was picked for the ABs in the past Smile Filipo was a good player - but of late he went downhill dramatically which has tainted his 'image' so to speak. Braid would be in a similar category to Lauaki and Laulala - deserved a shot but failed miserably with it. Evans is harsh.
