What the hell! Why would we put both McAlister and Donald on the bench, come on Henry!

If one of the wings gets injured Nonu could spend some time out on the wing with either McAlister or Donald slipping into second five. If Mils got injured Jane to FB, Nonu to the wing and Donald/McAlister to second five.

Also surely the loose forward trio is the wrong way round?? Don't really see why Latimer would be given a bench spot either. I would have liked a full strength team, and for me that would be a 6. Thomson 7. McCaw and 8. So'oialo combination with someone like Read on the bench who is a bit more versatile.

Yea pretty random bench. Don't think Kaino has done enough to deserve a start and even if he has Thompson should be on the bench then they will have everything covered in case of injury. Why put a specialist openside? It is really unlikely Richie will go down. Also the coaches love Sivi far too much. I don't see why he was first wing down and other spot being fought for. Jane has been the best wing all year so deserved the start all along and maybe Sivi should be dropped for one of the other 2

Definitely a random bench setup - have to hope we don't suffer any major injuries to force much shuffling. Kaino was brought in for his higher physicality and defensive work. But Thomson missing the bench spot as well was a harsh call.

Oh well - let's hope it doesn't bite them in the arse...

Yea I dont get that, especially as they've tried Thomson at openside on a number of occasions so you'd think he could cover McCaw who would only come off if injured.

Also looks to take away a tactical sub option that Thomson/Kaino could've offered late in the game if it opened up a bit. Just not sure what Latimers role on the bench is expected to be on this one

Suggestion in the article was McCaw moving to 8

Yea I noticed that, but then Kaino has played at 8 a fair bit as well, possibly more so than McCaw.

I cant imagine moving McCaw to 8 would ever be a tactical subsitution, it would only be injury forced if Read was injured. And if thats the case, Latimer's only role on the bench is to cover for injury to either McCaw himself or Read.

It just seems a waste of a spot when having Thomson would still mean injury cover for all 3 positions if needed, as well as a tactical option if the game opens up.

The coaches obviously have a plan in mind, it just seems a bit odd thats all. Especially with how well Thomson has been going, and how little play Latimer has actully had recently.

Possibly thought of playing both Latimer and McCaw in tandem at some point?

Thats true. Although that does seem to contradict their reasoning for starting Kaino over Thomson a bit, in terms of looking for a bigger physical presence.

Ah well, will soon find out what the grand plan is. Hopefully it results in a good win and some good tries. I've been itching for the boys to really cut loose and smash someone.

Yeah, it's all well and good to have a sub purely for injury cover with little-to-no tactical element (read: Stephen Donald) but you need to be careful that the CAN provide that injury cover and perform adequately if there's an injury early in the game.

Yep, long time coming but worth the wait.

The French boys played with a lot of enterprise which contributed to the best spectacle of the season by a fair margin.

The irony of course is that their open style of play is exactly what our boys have been looking for too because it enabled us to pinch some turnovers and unleash some beautiful counters.

Man that was an awesome game. The forwards took it to them physically (including a certain Wellingtonian who had a lot to prove) and the entire backline was on fire.

Sivivatu proved that he's still a force to be reckoned with, Mils came roaring back into form, Cowan and Carter proved how formidable they are as a partnership, as did Nonu and Smith. Didn't watch the whole game (had sick wife and uppity daughter to contend with) but what I did see has either Smith or h**e as my pick for MOM.

Yea thought the only back not that good was Nonu, far too greedy at times probably costing them a few more points. Forwards were dominant, Richie as good as ever and Donnely and Read likely causing a lot of doubters to eat their words

BS about Nonu man - he was busting the line all day and creating HEAPS of space for Smith and Carter. Sure he took it into the line a couple of times when he maybe should've passed, but so did everyone else in the backline at times.

Right about Read though - played bloody well - I hate that Smile

I reckon, has he shut up a few critics (me included) or what this year....

So'oialo has been a wonderful servant for the cause but you get the feeling he will need a monumental S14 next year to regain his starting spot.

I reckon he only shut up the critics in that last game - his form up until then was distinctly average and he had the spot more because So'oialo was under-performing rather than he was making himself impossible to ignore.

Upcoming Super season will have a lot of interest on the various No.8s - especially Thomas Waldrom who is tipped to still keep Read stuck in the 6 jersey for the Crusaders - how p!ssed would he be if he got dumped to the bench again considering he transferred to the Crusaders to escape just that...one must wonder whether trying to get back to the Canes (with So'oialo moving on) would be in his best interests...

What an awesome game! best All Black performance of the year. The backs were on fire, the counter attacking was awesome. More games like that are needed. Got to thank the French for allowing us to play our open-style of rugby.

No tries scored against in 2 years of end of year tour tests, thats a great accomplishment in itself.

Looking forward to the Barbarians game next weekend, hopefully we see a similar match to the one we saw this weekend.

I don't think we will because they will probably give Rodney's Italian team another run who arent capable of playing like that
