The 4th round of the Super 14 starts with the undefeated Chiefs taking on the Reds.

Here is the current table, which sees 3 teams still let to lose a match.

14Super 14: Week 4 22px-Flag_of_Australia.svg Force300356108-5200

Great to see 3 out of the top 4 being New Zealand teams, infact that is the same top 4 teams in the same position they finished in last season.

This weeks fixtures are:
5/3/10 - Chiefs V Reds @ 7:35pm
5/3/10 - Brumbies V Lions @ 7:40pm
6/3/10 - Crusaders V Blues @ 7:35pm
6/3/10 - Waratahs V Sharks @ 7:40pm
6/3/10 - Stormers V Highlanders @ 5:05pm
6/3/10 - Cheetahs V Hurricanes @ 7:10pm
Bulls and Force have the bye. It'll be a much needed break for the struggling Western Force.

Not quite - switch the chiefs and canes around and then you have last season's top 4.

Chiefs V Reds
Brumbies V Lions
Crusaders V Blues
Waratahs V Sharks
Stormers V Highlanders
Cheetahs V Hurricanes

Chiefs V Reds - Chiefs first home game of the season, and I reckon they'll be far too strong for the Reds. Chiefs 13+
Brumbies V Lions - Brumbies should dominate in this won, the Lions have been struggling so far this season. Brumbies 13+
Crusaders V Blues - Should be match of the round. Both teams have 2 wins each and both have showed good signs this season. This is one of the strongest rivalries in Super rugby. Crusaders 1-12
Waratahs V Sharks - Sharks have been less than impressive so far this season. Unlucky to miss the top 4 last year, they don't look like getting anywhere near it this year. Waratahs 1-12
Stormers V Highlanders - Stormers wont be easy to knock off at home this season, and although coming off a good win, the Highlanders, I don't think will be strong enough. Stormers 1-12
Cheetahs V Hurricanes Despite the injuries, I think the Hurricanes will still be too strong for the Cheetahs. Hurricanes 13+

Not sure what to think about the Reds this weekend. We have the ability to win and if we play hw we did against the Saders we will. Its a big test of how far the boys have come under Mckenzie over the dithc where weve had a poor record recently. I always tip the Reds so obviously its Reds by 1-12 for me Very Happy.

Brumbies should be waaaay too good for the Lions, 13+.
Crusaders v Blues will be the match of the round I think. The Blues were very good against us last week and the Saders looked good against a poor Sharks team. Ill say Saders in this one, them being at home tips the game in their favour I think, 1-12.
I think the Tahs will get over the hapless Sharks in their first home game of the season, I think it could be the worst game of the weekend though lol. Tahs 1-12.
Stormers and Highlanders is a tough one to tip imo. Highlanders got a good win last week and the Stormers have been very good this season even though they lost last week on the bell. Ill say Stormers 1-12, again them being at home gives it to them imo.
The Hurricanes first game outside of NZ this season should be a big win for them I think. Even though they are battered and bruised I think theyll be far too good for the Cheetahs. Canes 13+.

Picking the Cheetahs to beat the Hurricanes . Without Eaton and Smith playing they lose alot . And i rate the cheetahs side. Other upset you could say is the blues to beat the Crusaders Smile

They will still have a solid backline espec if Gear comes back, if not then i think the backline will be.

9. Weepu
10. Ripia
11. D Smith
12. Nonu
13. Kawau
14. Ellison
15. Jane

2 other ideas i think they could go with maybe playing both Ripia/Cruden at 10/12. Or moving Ellison to 13 and putting Andre Taylor on the wing.

C. Smith, Ellison and Kawau are all out.

I'd have it as...

9. Weepu
10. Ripia
11. D. Smith
12. Cruden
13. Nonu
14. Taylor
15. Jane

But they'll most likely start Alapati Leiua at 13 with Nonu in 12.

They'll just bring Leiua in at 13 and Taylor will take Ellison's wing. Brett Mather will be on the bench.

Hurricanes: Cory Jane, Andre Taylor, Alapati Leiua, Ma'a Nonu, David Smith, Aaron Cruden, Piri Weepu, Rodney So'oialo, Karl Lowe, Victor Vito, Michael Paterson, Bryn Evans, Neemia Tialata, Andrew Hore (c), John Schwalger.
Reserves: Dane Coles, Anthony Perenise, Jeremy Thrush, Scott Waldrom, Tyson Keats, Willie Ripia, Brett Mather.

Cheetahs: Hennie Daniller, Lionel Mapoe, Robert Ebersohn, Meyer Bosman, Jongi Nokwe, Naas Olivier, Sarel Pretorius; Wian du Preez, Adriaan Strauss, WP Nel, Nico Breedt, Waltie Vermeulen, Heinrich Brussow, Juan Smith (c), Frans Viljoen. Reserves: Ryno Barnes, Coenie Oosthuizen, David de Villiers, Kabamba Floors, Tewis de Bruyn, Riaan Viljoen, Danwel Demas.

Notable changes for the Canes here - as expected Alapati Leiua slots straight in at 13 while Andre Taylor takes over Ellison's right wing. Paterson shifts into the second-row in place of the injured Eaton while Vito comes back in at 6 (Crosswell would've been a better pick IMO). But the big talking point is Aaron Cruden being given the 10 jersey for the first time this season. Whether it is just for this one game against the lowly Cheetahs or the start of the rest of the season for the young Manawatu pivot remains to be seen - may all come down to how he performs or the coaches may have already mapped out a plan...

Wow! did not expect Cruden to be given the starting spot. With Conrad Smith out you'd think Ripia experience is needed. I hope Cruden has an awesome game. Crosswell has been solid so far and I too probably would have picked him over Vito. Despite the injuries its still a strong squad and we should definitely get up. I think I may slap a sneaky $5 on Andre Taylor for first try.

I think if our season is going to become anything the Reds have to start tonight with a win in NZ. Our record away from Australia has been absolutely woeful over the last few seasons, especially in NZ. Off the top of my head I can recall us beating the Blues last yr in Auckland 31-24 or something and I think I can recall us beating the Chiefs over there a couple of seasons ago. Injuries will be a huge factor though tonight, from last week weve lost our entire back 3 of Hynes, Ioane and Davies so that will make us even bigger underdogs.
I still believe though, go the Reds! Very Happy

Well my beliefs were to be true tonight! The Reds win 23-18 after going down 15-0 within 20 minutes. Heroic defensive performance in the last 15 minutes and a fantastic win for the boys Very Happy. Thought Van Humphries was immense tonight as was Genia and Cooper after a slow start took control of it in the 2nd half imo.
Absolutely stoked with the win! With the Force next week too going into the bye and we should be huge favourites for that one, could that be our first back to back win?! With the bye after the Force game we could be sitting very well on the ladder after 6 weeks.

Get in!

Can't wait for the Blues Vs Crusaders . Lets go the Blues . I think they play a good style for rugby now . They are focusing more on their defense than they have previously done . Look for quite a low scoring game . Blues to win 26-18
