PostSubject: The Wallabies European Tour   The Wallabies European Tour Icon_minitimeWed Oct 29, 2008 5:55 am

Hopefully a good tour for the Wallabies. Here are the games and dates:

Saturday, November 1: Australia v New Zealand - Hong Kong Stadium, Hong Kong
Saturday, November 8: Italy v Australia - Padua (WTF??)
Saturday, November 15: England v Australia - Twickenham, London
Saturday, November 22: France v Australia - Stade de France, Paris
Saturday, November 29: Wales v Australia - Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
Wednesday, December 3: Barbarians v Australia - Wembley Stadium, London

Any thoughts?

Game up against New Zealand first, last game in the Bledisloe...Australia will be out to avoid embarrassment.

i hope rabbit (james o connor) gets some gametime
i have a feeling he might get some vs Italy - arguably the weakest team the wallabies come up against

The ausi will struggle on this tour they didnt seem to like the northern hem rules that were played on saturday night.

Yea unsure on the full squad but from what I can find these are the players who have accpeted the invitation to play

Backs – Percy Montgomery (SA), Joe Rokocoko (NZ), Jean de Villiers (SA), Bryan Habana (SA), Fourie du Preez (SA) George Greegan (AUS)

Forwards – Carl Hayman (NZ), John Smit (SA), Bakkies Botha (SA), Steve Borthwick (England), Schalk Burger (SA), Richie McCaw (NZ), Jerry Collins (NZ)

Its shaping out to be a bit of a World XV, Aussie will definitly struggle to win this one

Not the greatest start to the tour, definitly cant see the Aussies getting too many wins on this Tour, they will lose to the Poms and struggle against the French but should beat them. Wales will be another tough one which they should manage to win just and then they are in for a hiding against the Barbarians.

Barbarians squad confirmed

Season-ending All Blacks Richie McCaw and Joe Rokocoko spearhead the New Zealand contingent confirmed for the Barbarians' line-up to face the Wallabies.

The sides will clash at Wembley on December 4 in a match celebrating the London Olympics' centenary.

The iconic British club will be coached by the World Cup-winning Jake White, who will be assisted by Eddie Jones.

As well as the two current All Blacks, ex-test stars Carl Hayman, Rico Gear, Chris Jack and Jerry Collins will also appear.

And the Barbarians have been able to confirm the selection of Springbok stars Bryan Habana, Jean de Villiers, Fourie du Preez, John Smit, Gurthro Steenkamp, Bakkies Botha and Schalk Burger after an earlier communication breakdown with SA Rugby.

"Assembling such a star-studded squad from several countries would not have been possible without the approval and co-operation of national unions and individual provinces and clubs and we are grateful for the support we continue to receive," Barbarians official Mike Burton said.

"Many people in many different capacities recognise the role of the Barbarians in such high-profile fixtures and their encouragement is a huge fillip to all of us who are involved. It promises to be a great occasion in every respect."

The Wallabies beat a Great Britain side in the final of the rugby competition at the 1908 London Olympics.

Barbarians squad: Percy Montgomery (SA), Bryan Habana (SA), Joe Rococoko (NZ), Shane Williams (Wales), Rico Gear (NZ), Jean de Villiers (SA), Ollie Smith (England), Francois Trinh-Duc (France), George Gregan (Australia), Fourie du Preez (SA), John Smit (SA), Mark Regan (England), Gurthro Steenkamp (SA), Carl Hayman (NZ), Patrice Collazo (France), Bakkies Botha (SA), Steve Borthwick (England), Chris Jack (NZ), Nick Koster (Western Province), Schalk Burger (SA), Jerry Collins (NZ), Richie McCaw (NZ)

Now I think the Ausi's are in trouble in this one.

Yea it is star studded any team would be underdogs to this side.

Dont think its necessary to have Rico, Joe, Habana and Williams all in the one team though, they possibly could have picked another Fly Half instead

I would prefer Percy but some stage in the game I wouldnt be suprised if we saw Percy slip into Fly Half and Rico could in to FB.

Rico can play centre as well - I would put Williams as FB cover instead.
