so Julia Gillard it is. Or will be in half an hour.

I feel a bit sorry for her if anything, didn't really want the job and looks to have been forced to take it.

It is done, elected unopposed with Swan as deputy. Gotta agree with that to, i don't think she wanted the job right now but has been forced upon it by the scared shitless ALP.

She isn't going to take the party to the left, even though she is from the left. There is going to be a honeymoon period with Gillard as leader, expect the election to be called during it.

I think it was decided before that. When Stephen Conroy and Mark Arbib decided that Rudd's time was over, he was gone. If he'd stayed the job he couldn't have functioned effectively. Then a new leader was required, and Gillard probably realised that she was the only person who could realistically do it (both due to factional support and in relation to the election).

If she really wanted the job I don't think she'd have done it in the current circumstances.

Conservitards repeat after me: 'You have only changed the leader and not the policies'.

I think Abbott would be very unhappy. I reckon he'd have fancied his chances at beating Rudd (don't think he would have but anyway), but Gillard is a different kettle of fish. She has much more political capital and people don't really like Abbott. Interesting times.

Especially women.

Abbott will probably keep Rudd linked to the ALP from now until the end of the election as much as possible even if Rudd doesn't contest his seat again (and he wont). Doubt it will work.

yeah he probably will try that but I think she'll dodge it pretty effectively. As much as we heard about this kitchen cabinet, I think people will buy the line that the country was run out of Rudd's office (as it probably was).

You also get to dump the baggage of Rudd, so the mining tax and the ETS probably won't be issues like they were for Rudd.

Feminism votes alone will win Labor the next election.

Be interesting to see where she goes.

I wasn't about to vote either Kevin Dudd or Tony Abbott, both were threatening to move the country backwards IMO. Gillard now has to prove herself though, she can't expect to walk into the top job and everyone to jump on the bandwagon. Although, as people have pointed out, the feminist vote will probably be obtained.

Go for One Nation mate...haha jokes. Good luck to her. I wouldn't be surprised if she's out by the November elections but most women will vote for her.
