Dropped: Thomson, Tialata, Guildford, de Malmanche
Promoted: Flynn, Afoa, Messam
Unluckey: GEAR!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Holy f**k what does this man need to do to get in!!

They take Rene "scurry like a rat and hog the ball, costing my team a try" Ranger and not Gear - morons.

Tialata scrummed really well last night, and did his best to switch over to loosehead when Woodcock was off (not easy, even if you are capable of playing both sides) and still gets dropped in favour of two far inferior scrummagers just cause they're better with ball in hand.

PostSubject: Re: 2010 Trinations Squad Named   2010 Trinations Squad Named Icon_minitimeSun Jun 27, 2010 1:47 am

Well I'm really concerned about our scrum now - Woodcock is back in form, but both Franks and Afoa are more renound for their open play than their scrum work - Tialata really should've been there for the tight work and the other guys could've come on when the game opened up.

I'm also concerned about the lack of forward punch in our backline - and no I don't consider Ranger worthy of being there in the slightest. If he even makes the field (which I doubt will happen barring injury) then he's gonna be MAJORLY found out. Nonu is back now which will help in the midfield, but neither Roks or Jane are able to singlehanded punch holes like Gear can; Roks can race through in broken play and Jane is superb in support and open play, but we really needed Gear to be able to hit those holes and open it up. You can't even say that it's because of his trouble under the high ball because Roks is just as weak, if not weaker.

But hey - is anyone surprised that the 3 least deserving people there (Afoa, Roks, Ranger) are all Blues players? I'm not.

Tialata was worse than Franks last night at scrum time, went much better once he came off. Thompson is unlucky, he barely got a go and no way is Joe better than Guildford

Agree with P'rus, Gear should have been there. Surely his game for the Maori team would have helped his chances? I would definitely have Gear or even Guilford ahead of Ranger at this point. Maybe Henry is only taking him because of his ability to play 13? Oh well stupid call even if so.

Im not too fussed about Messam for Thompson and de Malmanche for Flynn but like someone mentioned I think Tialata deserves to be there. I still rate him pretty highly and think he is definitely amongst our top 3 props.

Is there any places still out with injury for us? Hore, Toeava, anyone else?

Still can't believe Hosea Gear missed out on the All Blacks. What does he have to do to get back in the team??

Happy with no Tialata hes not up too it anymore. Rene Ranger named?? Not too sure about that selection either.

Would have Thompson over Vito anyday off the week. Other than hat nice work selectors 2010 Trinations Squad Named 575896

Don't really see Ranger as midfield cover any more considering Nonu, Smith, Stanley and Kahui are all there...

Chris - Tialata was 3 times shunted onto the Loosehead side where he's not nearly as comfortable. Plus it's more his dropping for Afoa than his competition with Owen (who I do think is good).

what a fukn joke of a side. Rene Ranger shouldn't of gotten in over Gear or Guilford. Corey Flynn is fukn shit. Yea and got to feel for Adam Thomson.

Oh well if Guildford is on the outer atleast the Magpies will have him for ITM Cup.

Yea good squad for the Magpies, we get Guilford Lowe and Fotualii who are all better than at least one player in that squad.
Tialata is meant to be able to play loosehead as well, that is why he is in the team, obviously they think Ben Franks is a better utility now

PostSubject: Re: 2010 Trinations Squad Named   2010 Trinations Squad Named Icon_minitimeSun Jun 27, 2010 7:41 am

He is a Utility - just because he CAN play both sides doesn't mean he can do it with the same effect. Just like McAlister and Weepu who both CAN play 10, but not with near the same effectiveness as they play 12 and 9 respectively.

Ben Franks isn't a utility - he's a specialist loosehead really. Owen Franks is probably the only utility potential - though Afoa's arguably has potential as a hooker utility (he hooked for the baabaas at Henry's request...)

God hosea gear has been hard done by. was the form no 6 in nz during the s14 season, earned a call up for the steinlager series yet was given shit all opportunities, his form in the maori match was enough to warrant for a spot in the side yet a proven failure, liam messam has been picked mainly based on his form in a maori outfit.

any of you kiwi lads know how gear faired in the match against wales last night?

Haha, Ben Franks is naturally a tighthead, always has been up until this year. He has only been playing loosehead to accommodate Owen in the Crusaders, meaning that Ben is the utility in the squad because on the bench he could cover either in the event of an injury. He is much more of a utility than Owen

gears totally hard done by. maybe he should start looking at going overseas. i'm sure many clubs in england would have him after what he did to the english team.
ranger is lucky but has a lot to offer if can just remember to bring his brain to the game
cant believe donelly kept his spot. isaccRoss is notorious for not mauling & clearing rucks, donelly's that complete opposite in that the hangs round rucks needlessly having a rest. couple times cowan told him to get out of the ruck cos he was just standing there doin nothing.
glad demelmanche is gone even if it is coreyFlynn thats in. at least flynn can hit 50%+ of his throw ins. demelmanche's first throw in was short, no one from wales jumped to compete and he still threw it in crooked. sheesh
tialata, well we didnt scrummage well vs wales but then franks didnt make that much of a difference when he came on.
afoa and the franks bros will struggle vs the saffa's. if we get beat up in the scrums bad enough then tialata might get a call. but saying that tialata has to pick his game up big time. he's been in better form than the wales game. if he can recapture his ball running and not lose anything else he should get a call back.
guildford is pretty ripped it off. dunno what roko is doin off the field to keep his jersey but its working. gear is easily more powerful and quicker than roko, and guildfords got more skill, better on defence, reading and secure under the high ball. roko has a long outdated reputation. roko imo single handedly cost us the trinations last year with his knock ons under the high ball

messam and thomson are interchangeable in that neither have proven to me that they are critical to the ABs. good back up tho

d4m still stunned that gear didnt get a call up

Fiji - Gear didn't play against the Welsh mate.

Im a huge fan of Jane, he has been in great form lately and is defintley one of our most consistent.

Adam Ashley-Cooper, Berrick Barnes, Kurtley Beale, Richard Brown, Luke Burgess, Mark Chisholm, Quade Cooper, Ben Daley, Rocky Elsom (c), Anthony Faingaa, Saia Faingaa, Will Genia, Matt Giteau, Scott Higginbotham, Matt Hodgson, Rob Horne, Peter Hynes, Digby Ioane, Ben McCalman, Salesi Ma'afu, Stephen Moore, Dean Mumm, James O'Connor, David Pocock, Benn Robinson, Nathan Sharpe, Rob Simmons, James Slipper.

Deans has named four uncapped newcomers in his 28-man squad - Queenslanders Anthony Faingaa, Scott Higginbotham and Rob Simmons and Western Force backrower Ben McCalman.

Dropped from the squad used for the June home Tests were Mitchell and Turner, props Pek Cowan and Laurie Weeks and hooker Huia Edmonds.

Mitch should be in the squad imo he is still very dangerous when on song, great to see Scotty Higginbotham in the team very well deserved and also Anthony Faingaa has been rewarded on a very consistent super 14 season. AAC will probs be on the wing with Mitch being dropped which sucks, but other than that we are capable of doing some damage.

AFAIC Deans made cuts for the sake of making cuts - Mitchell and Turner were very unlucky to lost out there as they're both lethal players, Mitchell especially seems to go up several gears against the ABs - just made beating them a whole lot easier...

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/3920015/Bulked-up-Andy-Ellis-eyes-All-Blacks-return

What a joke! Seriously is group-masturbation the primary activity of Cantabrians?

Quote :
When Jimmy Cowan's abdominal problem meant cover was required for the national team this week, Blues halfback Alby Mathewson was the man brought in. As a regular on the All Blacks end-of-year tours, Ellis might have been the logical choice, but a toe injury put paid to that.

YEAH RIGHT!
