LSU and Oregon to meet in 2011

Quote :
The game will be televised on either ABC or ESPN.

First of all, kudos to both schools for having the guts to schedule such a great game. How could you not be excited about this one, which figures to match two ranked teams from opposite sides of the country?

Sure there won't be any trash talking in advance of this one.

And, by the way, LSU is a program does have room to talk smack about the Pac-10. While the SEC is 9-11 versus the Pac-10 since 2000, LSU is 13-3 all-time versus the Pac-10, including recent wins over Oregon State, Arizona State, Washington and Arizona (twice). The Tigers are 2-1 vs. Oregon.

The Ducks will be an interesting team in 2011. Graduation will hit both lines hard -- three starters gone on both -- but the skill should be outstanding, with quarterback Darron Thomas entering a second year as a starter and LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner starring in a dynamic backfield.

http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/12683/lsu-and-oregon-to-meet-in-2011

This is massive for both teams and fantastic news for College Football. Personally, I'm super pumped we've scheduled a game against an SEC power in the LSU Tigers. The game being at a neutral venue (that being Cowboys Stadium) makes it all the more better.

So just for example if the season stopped today would the National Championship game be between Alabama and Ohio State?

Sorry for all the questions as well haha, just trying to get my head round it all Smile

Yes.

However, they way the final rankings are done is different to how it's done for the first five or six weeks of the season. For the first five to six weeks, both the Associated Press (a select group of 25 journalists) and Coaches (Top 25 ranked teams I'm pretty sure) order teams from 1 to 25, with 25pts for No. 1 and 1pt for No. 25.

But then a new system comes in which is the BCS Standings, and that's when the REAL rankings come about. The BCS Rankings are a combination of the two Polls above, plus another four different Polls which are done by 'computers'. That's where it gets hazy for me too haha.

But basically, the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams at the end of the season play in the BCS National Championship Game.

As for my Oregon Ducks, we're facing the Tennessee Vols at the notorious Neyland Stadium where there will be a crowd of 105,000 plus tomorrow morning. The game is on at the same time as the Penn State vs. Alabama game, so obviously I'll be following closely. It will be the first real test for Ducks QB Darren Thomas, and how well he can cope with the noise inside Neyland Stadium. If he can overcome it, we should win by at least two TD's as we're a much better team, but the crowd noise will play a big factor. It will help for us having our star RB LaMichael James after missing the first game against New Mexico due to suspension.

For those that haven't seen Neyland Stadium, here's what we will be contending with tomorrow morning. Talk about an awesome sight folks.

Would be stoked if Cal could land this fella in their next recruiting class. He's got a great build, nice speed and looks like he could be a really good prospect, particularly at ILB. Most of the highlight footage I've seen has him on offense; keep in mind that Julius Peppers was a running back in high school.

Oregon ended up running all over Tenessee in the second half, with it going from 13-13 to 48-13 from what I heard. Sparky will be stoked lol.

The Sooners got a win over FSU and what was realy suprising was seeing Virginia Tech going down to James Madison. I watched the 'Bama game today where Penn State had no answer for them.

Big results: Georgia Tech losing to Kansas, UCLA getting crushed by Stanford, James Madison upsetting Virginia Tech and South Carolina edging out Georgia. I was stoked with the Cal-Colorado game also; the Buffaloes got pummeled to the tune of 52-7.

Do we place Trent Richardson and Kevin Riley on Heisman watch?

I think the biggest result of the day was Virginia Tech getting beaten by James Maddison. Why? Not only were the Hokies playing at home, but James Maddison are a Divison II football team. The team that suffers the most from this loss apart from VT is Boise State. The win over VT was supposed to propel the Broncos into the National Championship discussion, but in the long run, the win might not seem so good anymore.

#7 Oregon def. Tennessee 48-13

Really happy with then win over the Vols today. There was a huge lightening storm that delayed the game for some time, and not only that, the Vols' came out really strong to open the game, at one stage leading 13-3. But we got a couple of lucky breaks late in the 2nd Quarter, and got to HT level at 13-13. The 2nd Half was all Oregon, with RB Kenyon Barner again doing most of the damage. Barner again running for more than 200 yards, LaMichael James also ran for similar. Darren Thomas after a few early jitters was also able to overcome the 102,000 plus crowd, and threw for 2 TD's.

Good to get another win up over Florida State, looked like it was a very comfortable win only being outscored 10-3 in the 4th.

We're now 5th after our domination of Tennessee. The highest we could go is 4th ahead of TCU. We won't go higher than that unless Alabama, Ohio State or Boise State lose because all of them have either beaten us (Ohio State in the Rose Bowl last year. Boise State two in the last two years), and Alabama because they're the BCS Champions.

their summer schedule is very thin.

From what I've read no. Basically it's pretty much because they've got the Bundesliga, Serie A plus Arsenal and Liverpool TV to fit in now. Plus of course NASCAR and NFL.

If it is to be on One HD this season, it wouldn't start for another couple of weeks anyway.

College Football: Week 3 - TV Schedule (ESPN Standard Definition)

Friday

Florida State vs. North Carolina - 2pm (LIVE)

Saturday

Cincinnati vs. North Carolina State - 3:30am (Replay)

Sunday

College GameDay - 12am (LIVE)
Notre Dame vs. Michigan State - 10am (LIVE)

Would have loved it if ESPN had Iowa @ Arizona on.

As long as they show Stanford @ Oregon in three weeks.

Huge game for Cal this week, a road trip to Nevada. They currently lead the nation in production on offense, and their QB (Colin Kaepernick) is a dual-threat QB with 110 rushing yards/game at present. A win this week would look very good in the grand scheme of things.

Week 3 Results: Thus Far

North Carolina State def. Cincinnati 30-19
Southern Miss def. Kansas 31-16
Nevada def. CAL 52-31

Kvltism will be disappointed to see his Golden Bears get done by WAC team Nevada. But having followed the PAC-10 closely the last three years, that is something CAL do well at. Get the fans hopes up, then disappoint them.

What a day of College Football it's been. As per usual, a massive day.

The biggest story of the day was #9 Iowa going down to #24 Arizona 34-27. With that loss, the Hawkeyes BCS National Championship aspirations are gone (and believe me, they were serious dark horses). As for the Wildcats, they almost blew it. They ed 27-7, only for Iowa to get it back to 27-27 and having all the momentum. Step up Arizona QB Nick Foles, who led the final drive by going 5-6 and 76 yards as the Wildcats won 34-27. Massive win not only for Arizona, but the PAC-10 as a Conference nationally.

As for the game I watched, that was between Notre Dame and Michigan State. What a game this was, with one of the best finishes to a game you will see for a long time. With the game tied at 28-28 at the end of regulation, off to OT we went. Unlike the NFL where it's the first team to score, in College Football it's possession for possession. Notre Dame kicked their field goal to go up 31-28 so it came down to the Spartans possession. They had decided to go for the field goal to send it to double-OT, but instead of going for a tough 46 yard field goal, they went for the fake and the kicker threw the ball to an open Charlie Gantt who ran for the TD and a dramatic Spartans win 34-31.

#5 Oregon def. Portland State 69-0

Another week, another easy win for us. No doubt Portland State are a bad team (0-10 all time against PAC-10 opponents) but what we're doing that other top teams aren't (namely Florida) is smashing the teams we play. We've amassed an amazing 189pts in 180 minutes of football and have only conceded 13pts. But the true test starts now with the beginning of PAC-10 play. We open our season away to Arizona State, don't want to get ahead of myself but in two weeks we play Stanford (3-0) at Autzen Stadium. That game is going to be huge. Just quickly, LaMichael James rushed for 234 yards, 200 of them coming before HT. Talk about explosive. And he said in his post-game interview that he didn't even play that well!!
