Just thought i would post my likely squad for the tour, from what i heard they will be taking 30 players, so i would have the squad as...

Keven Mealamu
Andrew Hore
Tony Woodcock
Owen Franks
Ben Franks
John Afoa
Brad Thorn
Sam Whitelock
Tom Donelly
Anthony Boric
Jerome Kaino
Richie McCaw
Victor Vito
Keiran Read
Liam Messam
Jimmy Cowan
Piri Weepu
Alby Matthewson
Dan Carter
Colin Slade
Ma'a Nonu
Conrad Smith
Isaia Toeava
Sonny Bill Williams
Cory Jane
Joe Rokocoko
Sitiveni Sivivatu
Israel Dagg
Mils Muliaina

HM: Hika Elliot, Wyatt Crockett, Ross Filipo, Adam Thompson, Brendon Leonard, Aaron Cruden, Robert Fruean, Hosea Gear & Rene Ranger.

Im not sure what the deal is with DC, will he be back? Have heard we will take 2 hookers and that could possibly boost Afoa's chances. Locks/Backrowers seem set, coaches have gone with them for a bit, Thompson unlucky maybe? Slade i think has over taken Cruden and could get a spot on the end of year tour. SBW will definitely get his chance to prove he can step up while if fit and have played a couple games, Toeave and Sivivatu should be amongst it imo.

Hika has been the shining light amongst an abysmal Magpies side, his work rate is immense the only real problem is the line outs. But seriously would rate him number 3 out of the NZ hookers behind Hore and Mealamu so he could push for a spot.

There is no way they won't take Cruden, sure he didn't have the greatest game last weekend but he's our future, the more experience he gets under DC the better he will be.

I reckon they'll take another specialist 7 on tour, give Richie a break. Obviously Karl Lowe would be my pick but either Latimer or Braid could take this spot.

If we were full strength this would be my 22

1. Woodcock
2. Hore
3. O Franks
4. Donnelly
5. Thorn
6. Kaino
7. McCaw
8. Read
9. Weepu
10. Carter
11. Dagg
12. Nonu
13. Smith
14. Jane
15. Muliaina

16. Mealamu
17. B Franks
18. S Whitelock
19. Lowe
20. Mathewson
21. Cruden
22. Toeava.

I'd have Mealamu start over Hore and Cowan would have to get either the starting spot or the bench. Definitely prefer Slade or maybe Delaney over Cruden

Yea fair call on Mealamu he's been in fine form this Tri-Nations, but if both were fully fit Hore would be my starter for sure. When he's playing it's like having a 4th loose forward on the field.

Some thoughts:

- Slade will go instead of Cruden, Cruden MIGHT go in a 3rd spot just as they took DC, Donald, and Delaney last year.
- SBW will go - after the pushing they did to take him, and the form he's showing, there's no way they can't take him to check him out in the black jersey
- Elliot won't go - Afoa's being touted as a Prop/Hooker cover and so that's all they'll take. Exception will be if Hore's not fit but has Flynn really played himself out of the jersey in the coach's minds?
- Will Sivivatu really go? Not so much due to him personally, but more due to who would have to miss out to accomodate him - namely Ranger...
- If they do take another openside it will be Braid. Much as I'm a Lowe fan (and I am), they'll be taking Braid.

All worthy points imo. Definitely agree with your 2nd and 3rd point.

- I was on the "dump cruden" band wagon but like Hendo said, he is our future, so he should get another go i reckon, although Slade does look good.
- Only reason i think Sivivatu will go is because he will be there at the WC and coming from injury, i think getting him back there will only benefit us.
- Braid in for Vito, i think it will go good. Gives us Kaino/Read for #6, McCaw/Braid for #7 and Read/Messam for #8.

Thomson should be the bench loose forward as long as this injury isn't too serious, can play and of the positions better than anyone else

Yeah Thomson's a very good player and his time with the sevens (if he goes) will help his ball-carrying skills.

Arguably whether Vito or Messam is more at risk of being dropped...

Read that they were considering not taking the 3rd specialist hooker and halfback to allow for more loosies and midfielders - well we've already covered Afoa being hooker if need be, but this will be a real slap in the face to Mathewson.

Thomson is injured and won't be available for end of year tour or the commonwealth games sevens.

Corey Flynn is another one who is injured. He probably won't be available next weekend for the shield clash also this should affect his chances of making the end of year tour.

So if Hore is not fit and Flynn may be out, would they just take Mealamu and use Afoa as the back-up hooker? surely not! Give HIKA a go!

good that flynns injured. how he made the squad i dont know
hika deseerves a shot but then again rutledge is better at throwing in the ball, and though less dynamic as Hika (ala mealamu) rutledge has that heatSeekerMissile tenacity that is irresistable (ala hore).
i know they wont take him because of his age and he's a risk and blah blah blah. but rutledge is ready for an AB's berth. his style of play reminds me of how joshKronfeld would just put his head down and get stuck in regardless of what was going on around him.

braid is average. sures he's reliable but he's low on the pecking order. vito is all right as an impact player though needs more brains. messam is an excellent choice but hasnt made the most of his AB's opportunities

SBW definately has to go so he cant invoke his get out of NZ clause in his contract if he doesnt make the AB's. cant help but feel though that SBW has left his run a bit late. has a lot to learn before the WC. doing great at the moment assimilating his league skills into rugby but still a long way to go.

Man...where's everyone gone...?

NEWS:

Halfback Piri Weepu broke his leg playing for Wellington in their 49-15 win over Taranaki last night and is now ruled out to tour with the All Blacks. His spot is almost certainly to be taken by Wellington Teammate Alby Mathewson who has had a strong season to date.

Ill have to agree there, Mathewson should go instead.

I think Toeava will probably be there too, had a good game yesterday and he should be there as a utility.

Fruean should go and probably would have but his spot will go to SBW which i think is wrong, I know the reasons why SBW will go instead are because of money but this kid has been playing awesome and deserves to go while SBW hasnt been playing that well yet.

Routledge is another who should go if we want to win the world cup next year he would be a great back up hooker to Mealamu but because of his age they wont pick him.

The squad will pretty much pick itself under Henry it is getting to the point of its harder to lose your spot than gain one much like the ausi cricket team of a few years ago.

Here is the squad that has just been named

John Afoa Auckland (25 tests), Anthony Boric North Harbour (16), Daniel Braid Auckland (4), Tom Donnelly Otago (13), Hikawera Elliot Hawke’s Bay (0), Ben Franks Tasman (7), Owen Franks Canterbury (17), Andrew Hore Taranaki (47), Jerome Kaino Auckland (33), Richie McCaw (Capt) Canterbury (89), Keven Mealamu Auckland (80), Liam Messam Waikato (5), Kieran Read Canterbury (25), Brad Thorn Canterbury (46) , Samuel Whitelock Canterbury (8), Tony Woodcock North Harbour (69). (Backs) Andy Ellis Canterbury (14), Daniel Carter Canterbury (74), Jimmy Cowan Southland (41), Stephen Donald Waikato (19) Hosea Gear Wellington (2), Cory Jane Wellington (20), Alby Mathewson Wellington (1), Mils Muliaina Waikato (89), Ma’a Nonu Wellington (52), Josevata Rokocoko Auckland (66), Sitiveni Sivivatu Waikato (43), Conrad Smith Wellington (41) Isaia Toeava Auckland (26), Sonny Bill Williams Canterbury (0).

Israel Dagg is out injured. Notable omissions are Rene Ranger, Victor Vito, Aaron Cruden and Colin Slade.

Stephen Donald, Hosea Gear, Andy Ellis, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Daniel Braid and Hika Elliot have been recalled

Disgusted that Donald has been recalled, thought Cruden deserved a spot and Slade also. I would have taken Karl Lowe over Daniel Braid too.

Pretty solid squad. Not many contentious selections other than Donald.

I'm not surprised at all that Cruden wasn't picked, but assumed it would have been Slade not Donald that got the backup spot to DC.

SBW would have been picked regardless, but he has been in great form the last few weeks.

I dont mind Donald being picked but i would of liked it if they did what they did during the Tri Nations and picked Cruden as First Five and Halfback Cover instead of picking washed up players like Ellis. Guttered Daggs injured and so feel sorry for Piri as his world cup might be over already.

My Team To Take On Australia

1.Tony Woodcock

Bit of a joke saying SBW was selected on form, he isn't even the form midfielder in Canterbury and Payne has been better than him also.
Messam is lucky to be there, should have given Bourke a turn to see what he could do because we have already seen numerous times Messam isn't up to it.
Cruden was shown up on Thursday so not suprising to see him miss out to Donald.
Ranger is a better player than Rokocoko, Gear and an unfit Sivi.
Lowe hasn't played as well this ITM cup so Braid did deserve it.
Kahn is unlucky to miss out to Ellis, especially with only two 10s.

I would love it if they did, but I can't see them throwing SBW straight into a starting position against the Wallabies. That would really be a baptism of fire, despite the dead rubber status of the match.

I never want to see SBW picked over Nonu! I don't even reckon SBW will make the bench against Aussie, I think we'll see Donald, Mathewson and Toeava as the reserve backs.

Still tough to figure out how they rate Gear though - with Rokocoko and Jane both there you can only assume they'll remain the starting wings, gear next while Sivivatu tries to come back from injury...presumably either SBW or Toeava would be the bench midfielder with Gear wearing 22, although they could well have both which would be a kick in the nuts for Gear.
