Quote :
BRISBANE'S Suncorp Stadium is on fire after rising flood waters short circuited after, fire-fighters believe, a generator box short circuited after rising flood waters.
Smoke is streaming out of a second story vent where it is believed a generator lurks behind.

With Brisbane River having broken its banks flood waters have begun flooding through Brisbane city and right now the water level is about 1-1.2m high on the ground floor of Suncorp stadium.

As yet the playing surface inside is yet to be covered in water.

However, streets surrounding the stadium have flooded well over 1m and close to 2m high.

Fire fighters are currently outside the stadium determining how they can get inside to put out the fire that is burning on the western side of the ground.

Shortly after 10.30am a large explosion boomed from behind the vent, sending black plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

"There's been a secondary explosion from the vicinity of the substation," a fireman said over radio.

As an alarm bell continues to ring as background noise, firefighters have gained access to nearby rooftops to check for damage and a current safety status.

They are still trying to find a way into the stadium.

ch.9 showed footage of the ground, it was probably a bit over an hour ago now, and the grass was under water

Just heard on Channel 7 that the actually Stadium wasn't on fire.. just a substation or something?

They also showed a man on a canoe floating around the Stadium.. and a man walking too; the water was chest deep.

Amazing stuff really.

You see images of the roads you walk down, the roads you see thousands of people sitting aroudn when you are walking down on your way to a game.

I'm looking at pictures of the streets and it reminds my of walking down them, pumped for an origin match along with thousands of people and now you look at it...All there is now is water.

It really isn't. They don't even play the final there. Now that's fact, not a mere opinion lol.

And considering Bugger all of the world play league, its hardly difficult to be a premier rugby league stadium.

The only reason they dont play the final at suncorp is because there to big headed in nsw to let the grand final be moved away from sydney. Most big test matches and most 4 nations final are held at suncorp because it is the best league stadium in the world and just because alot of nations dont play league still doesnt take away from the fact it's the best in the world.

Or the fact that moving the NRL Grand Final from a 82k seat stadium to a 51k stadium would mean a pretty big loss in profits for the NRL. Plus a bit of an outlash from Sydneysiders who believes the GF stays in Sydney, and rightly so.

If it was the premium stadium it would hold the final, like any other sport. AFL has mcg, British football has Wembley, so on and so forth.. we could go all day.
