NRL player arrested for alleged role in betting scandal
Bulldogs front-rower Ryan Tandy has been arrested by police for
his alleged role in a betting sting on Canterbury's round-24 NRL match
against North Queensland last year.
Detectives from the State
Crime Command's Racing and Casino Investigation Unit are finalising
their investigation into suspicious betting activity on the game, an
inquiry that has this month used the powers of the NSW Crime Commission. It is understood Tandy was arrested today.
His role in the match has been a centre of focus since betting agencies
reported suspicious punting trends on the usually novelty option of the
Cowboys to open the scoring with a penalty goal.
The alleged sting was ultimately unsuccessful after the Cowboys declined a
chance to kick an easy goal after two minutes, and instead scored a try.
Tandy, who was penalised in front of the posts for lying on Cowboys half Grant Rovelli, strongly denied giving it away intentionally in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald published on August 28. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/national/national/general/nrl-player-arrested-for-alleged-role-in-betting-scandal/2064809.aspx
