Pretty stoked with that side. Just gutted Flynn and Ellis are in ahead of Hika and Alby. Stoked Zac and Izzy are there though.

Jared Hoeata is the next Brad Thorn, definitely deserves his spot.

Thats pretty harsh on Nonu, but yeah probably right with SBW there. Very unlucky to make the bench though. Would swap Hore/Mealamu around and i think we need a winger on the bench in place of Kahui, but pretty spot on there.

Kahui does play wing, and he's a pretty good one too at test level. In fact he's played more tests on the wing than in the midfield.

Thats the beauty of him filling that bench spot, covers both midfield and wing quite easily.

I would go for Nonu and SBW in the centres.

I reckon Ali's pushing for his #5 jersey back TBH - Whitelock's had a pretty average season while Ali's just getting better and better. He's easily the best lineout lock in NZ and we need that solidity. My 22 (omitting the injury cover guys) would be:

1. Woodcock
2. Mealamu
3. O. Franks
4. Thorn
5. Williams
6. Kaino
7. McCaw
8. Read
9. Cowan
10. Carter
11. Gear
12. Nonu
13. Smith
14. Dagg/Toeava
15. Muliaina

16. Hore
17. B. Franks
18. Whitelock
19. Thomson
20. Weepu
21. Slade
22. Kahui

Kahui gets the nod on the bench over SBW due to superior versatility to cover wing (Dagg/Toeava cover Fullback) but you could easily have SBW there and, as Hendo said, move Nonu to the wing if injury requires. You could also get away with omitting slade from the bench and having Weepu cover 10 if injury strikes - allowing for both SBW and Kahui or else one of them and Guildford/Dagg/Toeava

That would suit me fine.. Conrad is an out an out superstar so the weaker the side the better for Aus Very Happy

SBW has actually impressed me of late but to give him a birth over Nonu i still think is premature and to drop Smith all together is one of the dumbest things i've seen in a while, it weakens the ABS immensely.. Yeah his offloads are handy but his all round game (understanding etc) are still obviously weaker then Nonu and that could be the difference between winning and losing in a crunch game. SBW could provide some wicked impact though i'll admit that but is he worth carrying on the bench when he can only play minimal positions.

Maitland is a Kiwi yeah? Why never considered? I personally think he's a beast.

Agree with you about the midfield Becks - totally right.

Maitland - no idea why he wasn't considered in the fold, personally I've been more impressed with him than Guildford and think we could use a solid right-wing specialised more than another left-wing which gear and sivivatu are...

The only change I would make to P-Rus' line up is Toeava on the bench for Kahui and Guildford taking Dagg's spot if he isn't fit.

i agree that dropping smith would be insane. nonu and sbw can fight over the 12 jersey but 13 is sancrosanct.
sbw on the bench.

is very correct. sbw though learning has split second moments where he isnt sure what to do and that delay could be costly in big games

maitland must be on the fringe but he's behind the pecking order of so many other wings. guildford has had a good season other the finals and has improved on his work ethic and accuracy so deserves a shot. maitland may have been marginally better and more effective with less touches of the ball but he's untested at test level and this is not the season to test his potential. maitlands young he can wait

where henry says maitland, mattTodd and robbieFruen are still on the ABs radar...just not this year

todd's hardest done by i reckon. todd and lukeBraid are the only real elligible specialist 7's good enough to have a shot at test level...shame holah's not elligible to play for the ABs yet

Holah will be eligible by WC time Wink

Next year will see a lot of young talent come into the ABs fold I reckon - actually don't know why the NZRU is chasing the signatures of so many old players when it's a perfect time to start a new cycle.

I agree P'Rus. There is so many young players coming through, especially in the backs.

Robbie Fruean, Sean Maitland and Tim Nanai Williams I expect will be All Blacks within the next couple of years.

Definitely - there are also some great young players from the last couple of U20 ABs who could well take the leap soon, the likes of Shaun Treeby, Charlie Ngatai, TJ Perenara, that Auckland Lock whose name eludes me, the Waikato halfback (I'm doing terrible with names today), Same Cane, and heaps more.
