None of Newcastle's Kiwi players were included following their elimination loss to Melbourne with nine-Test centre Junior Sau (knee) not considered.

Oh than probably Steve Matai for that centre spot, although I'm not much a Matai fan. Wish Ropati wasn't injured!

IMO, I reckon Perrett should be somewhere in the 17. Preferably on the wing at the expense of Nightingale.

No way! Nightangale has been one of the former wingers in the comp for the last 2 seasons and Perrett hardly played this year. Do you have a reason for picking Perrett?

If it wasn't for injury, Perrett would be the form winger IMO, but either decision NZL selectors choose, it'll be good one. I'd just like to see Sam get another shot.

Fine, maybe not form winger, but is one of the most consistent winger in the comp. You cannot deny that

A fully fit Perrett is right up there with Nightingale imo. Probably the two hardest working wingers out of dummy-half in the game as well. I think Nightingale's ability in the air is what makes him a slightly more complete player than Perrett though.

Sam Perrett and Ashley Graham are the two best dummy half runners when coming out of their own end. They both have a quick play the ball too that can kick-start a set of 6 and set up some momentum

That attribute is under-rated IMO... still rate Vatuvei and Nightingale over him though.

1. Locke (Hoffman if he had been fit)
2. Nightingale
3. SKD
4. Matai
5. Vatuvei
6. Marshall
7. Foran
8. Rapira
9. Luke
10. Moi Moi
11. Mannering
12. Blair
13. J Smith

14. Fien
15. Matulino
16. Manu
17. Glenn

I'm a big Bronson Harrison man and he never lets us down in a black jersey, but I think he could be one of the few incumbents that really struggles to hold down his place this time given his indifferent 2011 form.

I've only picked three specialist props, but I think Blair and Manu between them can easily get through the work of a fourth prop anyway despite their tendancy these days to play out a bit wider from the ruck.

I'd also seriously consider including Johnson on the bench over Fien if the selectors are prepared to take a bit of a punt.

and how could NZ not pick Nightingale. He's there not just as a good team man, but as an amusement factor as well. Pants torn? No worries, dack yourself, carry on like nothing ever happened.

Uhm, surely Sheens is joking...

Quote :

KANGAROOS coach Tim Sheens is leading a push for Wests Tigers rookie prop Aaron Woods to be selected as the bolter for the Four Nations tournament.

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that Woods, a Junior Kangaroo who has played just 24 NRL games, is in line to be chosen in the Australian squad of 24 players to be announced next Monday.

Fellow Wests Tigers prop Keith Galloway is guaranteed selection and Brisbane prodigy Matt Gillett is also on target after having his claims pressed by Broncos and Kangaroos captain Darren Lockyer.

Coach Sheens was tight-lipped when contacted about the make-up of the squad, which will assemble in Newcastle on October 10 to prepare for a one-off Test against New Zealand on October 16.

"I'm not going to comment about selections," Sheens said.

"If they're in the train-on squad then they're in the mix, but there's still the grand final to get through before we sit down to name the team. There's also a number of guys being monitored by the medical staff with injury concerns so we won't know who's in or who's out until after the grand final."

The biggest injury concern surrounds South Sydney centre Greg Inglis, who has been given up until the week the team leave for England on October 21 to prove his fitness.

The Sunday Telegraph has been told Inglis will be selected in the initial 24-man squad and then given up until after the warm-up Test against the Kiwis to show that his knee has healed.

If he fails to meet the injury deadline, a standby centre will be called in to the squad to join Brisbane's Justin Hodges and Wests Tigers' Chris Lawrence, with the Melbourne Storm's Dane Nielsen pressing hard for inclusion.

Sheens and the Kangaroos selectors are looking at a number of options in the front row to cover the loss of experienced former Penrith captain Petero Civoniceva.

The 45-Test veteran has been ruled out with a pectoral injury, opening the door for Galloway to be guaranteed inclusion.

But aside from Galloway, North Queensland's Matt Scott and Brisbane's Ben Hannant, the final two front-row positions remains open.

Rookie Woods, Brisbane young gun Josh McGuire, Canberra's David Shillington and experienced Manly pair Brent Kite and George Rose are all under consideration.

Former Test front-rower Steve Roach applauded the selection of Galloway but cautioned against tossing Woods into the international arena prematurely.

"I'm wrapped if Keith Galloway can make the squad. He's strong, fit and powerful and he deserves his shot," Roach said.

"He looked like he really enjoyed the Origin experience this year.

"I'm a huge fan of Woods, too. I think he's the best young front-rower in the game along with Trent Merrin.

"But I would like to see him get a little taste of rep footy out here before he gets chosen for a Kangaroo Tour."

Didn't stop Uate playing for NSW this year, the IRLF can grant exceptions apparently.

I'm still fair happy with that team but at the time I thought Inglis was no chance of being fit but if he is he'll be well in the running.
