Thats a handy Canes side Hendo.

You think theyll persist with Weepu at First Five? Alby Matheson has had a great season would be great to see them fit both of them into the side

Fair enough both forward backs are exactly the same as it should be, and I am biased towards ALby having gone to school with him so put him in at 9 haha, and I think T. Ellison deserves a staring spot and aint the biggest fan of D. Smith, hence his spot on the bench, its one hell of a team anyway, the 2nd strongest if not the strongest NZ side

That is probably the weakest Crusaders side we have seen in a very long time. With no Ali or Sommerville the forwards don't seem to be that spectacular. Without the likes of Ralph Hamilton (despite hating both of them) and DC of course the back line looks a lot weaker also, in saying that a weak crusaders side is probably just as good if not better than all other NZ sides

Cantabs will take it out for sure I really like their side, Hendo we will see who wins (Crusaders). Who do you think will take it out? Wiakato has changed heaps of their team.... I think Hendo Ralph wasnt any good last year he is past his due by date

Your thoughts?

Yea IMO Ralph and Hamilton were always shit, but the selectors loved them and they were always guarantees.

I think this will be the year of the Hurricane, and I hope it is.
Yea Chiefs will be solid probably just miss out on the top 4 and Blues and Highlanders will be near the bottom of the table

Blues are gone for sure, Hurricanes i think bench isnt up to scratch though. Year of canterbury. Scotty hamilton was real good i think but agree with ralph definitely overatted and didnt know why he was here last year. I am not sure if Ralph was good in his early career. Do you know?

Agree with you there - Ralph and Hamilton are two of the most useless players to ever wear the black - though a lot of Cantabs are in that category thanks to the infamous 2003 "Canterblacks"

Hurricanes certainly look to have the most firepower by a long stretch but I think 2 key factors will need to be sorted if they are to be true title contenders:

1. Ripia needs to step up and run the show from 1st 5 - the typical play should be Piri at 9 and Ripia at 10, then at the 50-60 minute mark, Mathewson comes on for either of them (piri moving to 10 if Ripia goes off) and the pressure stays on. Daniel Kirkpatrick will only get game time in a couple of the nothing matches unless Ripia really screws it up.

2. They need to play AS A TEAM!!! The perennial problem for Wellington and Hurricanes teams alike is their perchance to play as individuals when the pressure comes on. You need only look back to the NPC final to see how that worked out.

Highlanders look a lot stronger than last year and should do better - the Blues will probably go through their normal process of playing strong at the beginning and end but shit for the middle half of the season - they just don't have the depth to maintain any sort of consistency and Lam will probably demand too much from the starting XV due to the dramatic drop in quality to their bench players.

Chiefs can be strong, but I think they're looking pretty ragged in the tight 5 which could be their undoing. They have strong players there (Elliot, Taumalolo, May, Clarke, O'Neill, etc) but that's a lot of raw players who haven't played together...just ask the Highlanders how hard that is to work with...

Note that the 16/17 and 18/19 comparions should be swapped around to more match up the positions, i.e.

Jason Macdonald vs Coles
Bronson Murray vs Fairbrother
Isaac Ross vs Bryn Evans
Nasi Manu vs Karl Lowe

Mate lol Ross is a 10 times better player than Lowe, he started last year for highlanders. Manu is better, foutili is in superb form. Have you listen to ANZ cup payne is said by all comemtars as the only fullback that runs the ball.

We will see, who is the best super side in rugby... Thats right canterbury

Mate lol Ross is a 10 times better player than Lowe, he started last year for highlanders. Manu is better, foutili is in superb form. Have you listen to ANZ cup payne is said by all comemtars as the only fullback that runs the ball.

We will see, who is the best super side in rugby... Thats right canterbury

disagree in bold

Mate look super14 champions, and Anz cup champions. ANZ cup doesnt make it is provence stuff. Super14 is the real stuff. You name a better union at the moment

Now you changed it to at the momment

Scott mc. So are you denying that they arent the best super team ever?

Ok they are best super 14 but not best Air Nz Cup

Scott mc they are the best and you cant deny it. They have the best 2 players in the world
