Chiefs winger Sosene Anesi and Hurricanes loose forward Victor Vito have been confirmed as Super 14 players who will trial for the New Zealand team to contest next month's rugby sevens World Cup.

Up to one player from each of New Zealand's five Super 14 franchises can be made available before coach Gordon Tietjens names his squad of 12 for the World Cup in Dubai from March 5-7.

It is unclear if any players have been made available from the Blues, Crusaders or Highlanders.

Anesi and Vito, who have both previously starred for the New Zealand sevens team, will join a group of 20 players to undergo a training camp from Sunday.

Tietjens is expected to reveal his Cup squad in the middle of next week.

I read that Cory Jane had also put his hand up from the Canes, but Vito was preferred (fair enough I guess) while Liam Messam was the initially preferred option from the Chiefs, but he opted out. Anesi knows that he'll have a hard time getting game time with Sivivatu/Masaga/Muliaina dominating the back three for the Chiefs (ironically, when Mils gets injured and is out, Anesi is also injured...poor bugger)

Hurricanes loose forward Victor Vito has been drafted into the New Zealand squad to contest the fifth Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament in Dubai next month.

Chiefs winger Sosene Anesi had declared his availability for the tournament but hasn't made it into coach Gordon Tietjens' 12-man squad.

Tietjens had earlier declared that he wanted Super 14 players Anesi and Vito in his side for Dubai.

The squad features 10 members of the current national sevens squad, Taranaki's Ben Souness who joined the squad prior to the San Diego tournament and Vito.

Vito last played for the New Zealand team during the 2007-2008 IRB World Sevens Series.

The New Zealand squad is: Tomasi Cama (Manawatu), DJ Forbes (Captain, Counties Manukau), Paul Grant (Otago), Nigel Hunt (Bay of Plenty), Zar Lawrence (Bay of Plenty), Tim Nanai Williams (Counties Manukau), Lote Raikabula (Manawatu), Ben Souness (Taranaki), Chad Tuoro (Counties Manukau), Tu Umaga Marshall (Wellington), Victor Vito (Wellington), Viliame Waqaseduadua (North Harbour).
