Here's an interesting thought - who would you pick for the Springboks XV after the first 6-7 rounds?

Some interesting match-ups around the place...

Smit or du Plessis at Hooker
Kankowski or Spies at No. 8
Pienaar or Pretorious or Morne Steyn at 1st 5
Francois Steyn or de Villiers at 12
Jacobs or Fourie at 13

so many guys playing bloody well all around...

Smit or du Plessis at Hooker
Kankowski or Spies at No. 8
Pienaar or Pretorious or Morne Steyn at 1st 5
Francois Steyn or de Villiers at 12
Jacobs or Fourie at 13

they would be my picks

KK is on the money with those picks.

Steyn is a future player, imo he's like an Springboks version of Berrick Barnes. Fourie is a good player, espec to play good in that cheetahs team, no doubt around SA's best he will be better. And no doubt Spies has to be there #8, atm probably the best in the buisness.

You mean Lions? Smile

Yeah, Fourie would probably get the nod at centre (providing he stays fit). The 2nd option is a really tough one since both de Villiers and Steyn are top shelf players. Obviously Steyn has arguably the best kicking game in the world, but de Villiers is a stronger runner and defender, plus he is still the intercept king Smile

I'd actually like to see Steyn at fullback since Jantjies hasn't really been playing much and the others (Terblanche and Montgomery) are too old.

My backline would be:

9. du Preez
10. Pretorious
11. Pietersen
12. de Villiers
13. Fourie
14. Habana
15. Steyn

I don't really know the forwards well enough (or remember their names) to make reasonable picks at the pack...

Whatever the case, if the Super 14 is anything to go by, the Springboks will be the team to beat this year...

Indeed i meant Lions lmao. But yeah that team isn't too bad, but i think Steyn will start at 12 and probably Jantjies at FB. Im a fan of Montgomery but he probably wont be there.

De Villiers has to start at 12. Was the best springbok last year.

I don't see how Jantjies will get in - Montgomery is starting for the Stormers and he's confirmed his international retirement...

I just think Morne Steyn's too one-dimensional for test play. He kicks well but doesn't run the backline as well as Pretorious or Pienaar would - he relies on a dominant forward pack and that doesn't always work (see vs Highlanders).

I agree with Pretorious he is a much better option then Steyn, sure Steyn has an excellent kicking game but he doesn't seem to spark the back line like Pretorious and when your playing against teams like the Wallabies and All Blacks its generally gonna be a very open game and having just a great kicking game just wont cut the mustard.

And none of their next few opponents (ABs, Wallabies, Lions) are going to just give away penalties like the Canes did the other week.

I'd say they'd probably be on the Rugby Channel - dunno about SS1 or not...
