super 14 road to the playoffs Empty
PostSubject: super 14 road to the playoffs   super 14 road to the playoffs Icon_minitimeMon Apr 20, 2009 12:45 am

Talk about a race that is wide open. The results in Round 10 mean that, mathematically, 13 of the 14 teams still have a chance of reaching the play-offs.
Now, we all know that is stretching it, but what is more interesting is how the top end of the competition in shaping up.
The top four teams have all lost three times already. It is worth noting that six times in the 13 years since inception of the professional era, the team ultimately winning the Super 12/14 had lost three of their league matches.
Another fact worth taking note of is that when the Bulls won their title in 2007, they had lost four league matches that year.
Now, back to the present.
It is going to be one hell of a run in to the play-offs, simply because so many of the big guns still have to play each other.
It all starts with the top-of-the-table Chiefs against the third-placed Bulls in Pretoria this week. And then the Chiefs also still face the fourth-placed Hurricanes a few weeks down the road.
The Sharks, currently second, have a bye this week and then have to face the Waratahs and Bulls in the coming weeks.
And so it goes on. Needless to say, a few teams are going to knock each out of the race in the last month of league action and - once again - it may go down to the wire, the last week of league action on May 15 and 16.
It may well come down to the very last league match of the season, when the Sharks host the Bulls in Durban on May 16, to sort out the final places.
So, let's take a look at what's in stall for each of the 14 teams!

I thought this wa s quite interesting and good to see who has who left what are your guys thoughts on what the top 4 will look like?

IM thinking the blues, chiefs, bulls and sharks at the moment.

With the canes just missing out but it will be close between them and the sharks/chiefs for the last two spots.

We really need a ladder predictor like the NRL.com has. I think Chiefs will struggle against the Bulls and Stormers. The game against the Canes is gonna be an epic nail biter. Hurricanes will win at least 3 out of the remanding 4 games I reckon so they will be in the 4. Sorry to say KK but I cant see the Blues beating Canes or Crusaders. I will be surprised if they make it through.

My top 4 in this order

Sharks (3 home games should win them all)
Hurricanes (should have 3 maybe 4 wins)
Chiefs (will win atleast 2 of 4)
Bulls (2 or 3 wins)

Blues (2 wins max)

I agree with Hendo - plus the Chiefs have lost Leonard for a couple of weeks which will hurt them.

the key thing is form and while some of the teams are really starting to find it (i.e. Blues, Canes) some are struggling to remember it (Bulls)...

Here is my full ladder prediction after breaking it all down. I may be a little bias towards the Hurricanes but that's my team so I'm allowed Very Happy + I seriously think they can win all 4 of their remaining games.

Hurricanes
Shark
Bulls
Chiefs

Crusaders - 3 easy wins which they should pick up 5 points, I reckon the Blues will beat them though and they'll lose out on PD to the Chiefs.
Blues
Waratahs
Brumbies
Force
Highlanders
Stormers
Lions
Reds
Cheetahs
