Rugby Union has been pro since 1995. Who would be part of the World XV from any time in the 13-years since?

I'll start with a few personal thoughts, mostly NZ'ers I'll admit cause I know of them best. Nominate your selections for any position (they must have played test Rugby since 1995) and it can be debated on the thread before being added or changed based on majority ruling. Players already added can be taken off if majority pushes selection another way. Honourable mentions is also available for those who have been World Class, but not quite cracking the top XV.

1. Os Du Randt
2. Sean Fitzpatrick
3. Carl Hayman
4. Martin Johnson
5. John Eales
6. Michael Jones
7. Richie McCaw
8. Zinzan Brooke
9. George Gregan
10. Dan Carter
11. Jonah Lomu
12. Tim Horan
13. Stirling Mortlock [poll]
14. David Campese
15. Christian Cullen

Honorable Mentions:
Victor Matfield
Kees Meeuws
Andrew Mehrtens
Johnny Wilkinson
Tana Umaga
Brian O'Driscoll

John Eales would have to be a contender at lock, as would Victor Matfield in my opinion.

EDIT: And Martin Johnson.

I dont think any Kiwi locks would make the side

Surely Lomu is a shoe in on one wing. Id say Os Du Randt would be contending for the loosehead prop possie.

yea lomu has to be on the wing
who could beat him at his best?
i think mortlock is a more rounded player then opdriscall and seems to do evenb better under pressure
i think eels needs to ba lock
i think jef wilson, shane williams or rory underwood could be a good call for the other wing

Some interesting selections - are we agreeing on anything to add or remove yet?

I'm thinking we may need a poll to sort out the 13 position, Mortlock, Umaga and O'Driscoll are all in the running

OK - Jonah's in at 11 (I disagree but majority rules).

Agree we need a poll for centre, but where do you add one? I cannot see an option to...

Huh...I'm sure that wasn't there when I last checked...meh Smile

Not so much that I've got a preferred option, I just don't rate Jonah all that much. Most expensive piece of luggage the Hurricanes ever had...

Fair enough, I think his WC efforts that earn him the spot '95 and '99. I think possible poll for evey position could be cool haha, I'll add more suggestions if you like.

No doubts he's a great attacking wing; but a moored battlecruiser in shallow water would turn quicker than Lomu with the ball kicked behind him...

So the poll will run for a while...wonder if I can change it later...

How about Props - the only ones suggested were Os Du Randt, Carl Hayman, and Kees Meuws. Was Kees a tighthead or loosehead? Hayman and Du Randt I agree with.

Locks? John Eales definitely. Victor Matfield? Martin Johnson?

Kees was a tight head so nowhere near as good as Hayman

Loose Head - Os Du Randt, Craig Dowd, ???

Tight Head - Carl Hayman, Olo Brown, Jason Leonard, John Hayes

Unsure on Locks, I definitley agree with Eales. Johnson was great but think his leadership abilities are what made him such a legend, Matfield is solid and has been around for a long time but I prefer another Saffa Mark Andrews. Also Chris Jack and Ian Jones both desrve a mention as does Paul O'Connel.

Yeah - Horan's looking promising at 12. Walter Little deserves a mention, though it was more his partnership with Bunce that did it. I've got a real soft spot for Jean De Villiers...

I like Jack and Jones - but wouldn't put then in the "best ever" category, even with the limited scope we have here...O'Connell is good but again doesn't match up that far.

How about No. 8? Zinzan Brooke? Dallaglio?

Zinny is definitley the stand out, Dallaglio 2nd with Gary Teichmann being my 3rd pick.

Just came across this, you may be interested in it, imo its a bit bias towards Northerm Hemisphere players.
