After a horrific tour to NZ 4 years ago under Clive Woodward the Lions will be hoping to make amends with this tour to South Africa.

After the Success of the SA teams in the Super 14 - especially the Bulls and Sharks - I don't rate the Lions' chances as very good at all. I forsee a SA whitewash as a stepping stone to winning their first Tri-Nations in a looooong time.

Yea the Lions are going to get a hiding I feel, be just like the tour of NZ a few years ago. and yes they will be extremely tough for the ABs and Aussie. All Blacks have to play back to back games against the Boks in South Africa!

The Lions don't have much of a chance against South Africa. South Africa will win all three tests comfortably!

Bulls would give the current AB squad just named a good run I reckon, especially at Loftus.

Agree there - be afraid...

South Africa: Forwards – Andries Bekker, Schalk Burger, Bismarck du Plessis, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Ryan Kankowski, Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit (captain), Juan Smith, Pierre Spies, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Danie Rossouw, Gurthro Steenkamp, Deon Carstens. Backs – Jean de Villiers, Fourie du Preez, Jacque Fourie, Bryan Habana, Adrian Jacobs, Ricky Januarie, Odwa Ndungane, Jongi Nokwe, Wynand Olivier, Ruan Pienaar, J.P. Pietersen, Earl Rose, Francois Steyn, Morne Steyn.

Emerging Springboks: Backs – Heini Adams, Bjorn Basson, Burton Francis, Zane Kirchner, Louis Ludik, Morgan Newman, Earl Rose, Deon van Rensburg, Jano Vermaak, Luzuko Vulindlu. Forwards – Jacques Botes, Jean Deysel, Wian du Preez, Werner Kruger, Tiaan Liebenberg, Bandise Maku, Dewald Pretorius (captain), Wihelm Steenkamp, Steven Sykes, Franco van der Merwe, Duane Vermuelen.

And yes, I know Earl Rose is named there twice...I didn't write the article Smile

Frankly, if the Boks don't win this year's 3N, it should be Peter de Villers' head.

Fully agree there Pantherus. That squad screams of talent and, just as importantly, depth.

They've got a glut of quality loosies in Spies, Burger, Kankowski & Smith, the best locking and lineout combination in the world and options galore amongst the inside backs and midfielders with du Preez, Pienaar, both Steyns, De Villers, Fourie, Olivier, Jacobs.... the list just keeps going.

If De Villiers plays it right, they could enjoy a season similar to what had back in 05. Its pretty scary as an AB supporter.

Who will South Africa use as Fullback, I heard that they were thinking of putting Pietersen there, I would of preferred Zane Kirchner or maybe Francois Steyn at Fullback.
1. Gurthro Steenkamp
2. John Smit (captain)
3. Tendai Mtawarira
4. Bakkies Botha
5. Victor Matfield
6. Schalk Burger
7. Juan Smith
8. Pierre Spies
9. Fourie du Preez
10. Morne Steyn
11. Bryan Habana
12. Wynand Olivier
13. Jean de Villiers
14. J.P. Pietersen
15. Francois Steyn

16. Bismarck du Plessis
17. Deon Carstens
18. Andries Bekker
19. Danie Rossouw
20. Ricky Januarie
21. Ruan Pienaar
22. Jongi Nokwe

That would be my team, its awesome, best loose forward trio in the world by far.

I read that Smit is being used as a prop now - no longer as hooker. So Bismark will be starting with Chilliboy as backup - or maybe 2 props on bench and Smit to move in if needed...

And agree that Steyn should play Fullback - utilise his kicking best.

Dam that means the Beast will be dropped to the bench. I way prefer Smit as a hooker.

Lions beat the Golden Lions overnight 74-10
looks like a much better performance from the Lions (obviously a huge scoreline like that was probly expected)

the first 'bigger' test coming up this weekend tho with the Super 14 sides trying to knock them off

Results so far :
Royal XV 25-37 Lions
Golden Lions 10-74 Lions

Cheetahs 24-26 Lions
Sharks 3-39 Lions

Western Province 23-26 Lions

Southern Kings 8-20 Lions

all the warm up matches leading upto the 1st test are over and the big one is this saturday evening
going by those scorelines i dont think the lions have much of a chance against a springboks team who will be full of bulls super14 players. yes they are undefeated but its the performances im looking at and i havent seen one standout performance

we'll see though - i know im still cheering for the lions 100% and i do think it will be a good game on saturday Very Happy
