Former New South Wales Waratahs flanker Rocky Elsom has ended months of speculation by putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with Super 14 franchise the Brumbies.
Elsom's signature confirms the star flanker will be eligible to play for the Wallabies in the 2009 Test season.
Elsom , who has 40 caps for the Australia, is returning from a stint in the northern hemisphere season where he was instrumental in helping Irish side Leinster to a maiden Heineken Cup title.
He has also been named in the Barbarians side to play Australia in Sydney on Saturday night.
Elsom said the prospect of rejoining the Wallabies was a crucial factor in his decision to return to Super rugby.
"We made progress last year with the Wallabies and there are exciting challenges ahead in 2009," he said.
"Playing for Australia means a lot to me. Playing for the Wallabies is my No.1 priority."
Elsom's signature is a huge boost for the Wallabies - the rampaging flanker was one of Australia's best forwards in his last Wallabies' campaign, the 2008 Tri Nations series.
Meanwhile, the Brumbies' roster for 2010 looks capable of making a strong tilt at next year's Super 14 title, with Elsom set to join Australia fly half Matt Giteau at the Canberra-based franchise.http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,25581273-23209,00.html
Great news for the Wallabies, as although they have 2 class open side flankers in Waugh and Smith, they do lack blindside options, he will fill the gap perfectly. I reckon he would be one of the most talented Australian Rugby Players along with Smith and Giteau.
