- The All Blacks have suffered a major blow ahead of their test season with classy centre Richard Kahui out for up to six months with a shoulder injury.
Kahui picked up the problem in the Chiefs' Super 14 final loss to the Bulls last weekend and the injury has worsened since he arrived back in New Zealand earlier this week.
He was reduced to a spectator's role today as the All Blacks wound up their three-day camp in Auckland ahead of tests against France and Italy.
The problems at centre don't stop there for All Blacks coach Graham Henry with first choice Conrad Smith also sitting out training on Friday with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.
The new-look backline had Isaia Toeava running at No. 13.
Also on the injury list and not taking part in contact training were halfback Brendon Leonard, loose forward Jerome Kaino and senior lock Ali Williams.
The poor bugger had a blighted start to his career due to injuries - now he has his best shot ever of taking the 13 jersey for himself and then this happens.
Laulala may be a trifle disappointed that he signed in the north now...
With Smith also in doubt the depth at centre suddenly opens again.
- Does Nonu stay at 12 and a 13 partner (probably Toeava initially) found for him, or does he move out to 13 and find another 12?
- Who gets the call up...Tuitavake? (likely) Tamati Ellison (possible) Tim Bateman (unlikely)...?
