2009 QB positional battles Empty
PostSubject: 2009 QB positional battles   2009 QB positional battles Icon_minitimeFri Jul 17, 2009 7:56 am

There are a few teams who have equal ability QB's who will use this training camp and pre-season to prove to their coaches that they deserve the starting spot.

Here are some of the QB positional battles -

CLEVELAND BROWNS - Brady Quinn vs. Derek Anderson

DETROIT LIONS - Daunte Culpepper vs. Matthew Stafford

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Matt Cassel vs. Tyler Thigpen

MIAMI DOLPHINS - Chad Pennington vs. Chad Henne

MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Sage Rosenfels vs. Tarvaris Jackson (And maybe Vs Brett Favre)

NEW YORK JETS - Mark Sanchez vs. Kellen Clemens
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Shaun Hill vs. Alex Smith vs. Damon Huard

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Byron Leftwich vs. Luke McCown vs. Josh Freeman

Who do you think will win each positional battle and why?

CLEVELAND BROWNS - Brady Quinn vs. Derek Anderson

needs one more year

DETROIT LIONS - Daunte Culpepper vs. Matthew Stafford

needs time to grow

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Matt Cassel vs. Tyler Thigpen

they just extended his contract.... i think that means he will start

MIAMI DOLPHINS - Chad Pennington vs. Chad Henne

pennington smashed it last year and should easily be the starter

MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Sage Rosenfels vs. Tarvaris Jackson vs Brett Favre

Brett farve easily.. he will only go to the vikings to start

NEW YORK JETS - Mark Sanchez vs. Kellen Clemens

This is the hardest one but i will have to go with sanchez

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Shaun Hill vs. Alex Smith vs. Damon Huard

dont know enough about them... i would be guessing

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Byron Leftwich vs. Luke McCown vs. Josh Freeman

im a big bryon leftwich fan Razz ... i think he could easily start for the bucs

CLEVELAND BROWNS - Brady Quinn vs. Derek Anderson
Something tells me Quinn might end up getting the job. The Browns gunned hard to draft him, and he has more of an upside.

DETROIT LIONS - Daunte Culpepper vs. Matthew Stafford
Culpepper to start, while Stafford develops behind the scenes. He'll only get pushed up the depth chart if the Lions are stinking up the place around the mid-season mark.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Matt Cassel vs. Tyler Thigpen
Cassel, no doubt. Nothing against Thigpen, but this is a foregone conclusion.

MIAMI DOLPHINS - Chad Pennington vs. Chad Henne
Not too sure. Pennington certainly did his chances plenty of favours last season, but he's a known injury risk and doesn't have much of an arm.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Sage Rosenfels vs. Tarvaris Jackson (And maybe Vs Brett Favre)
Until we see Favre play his cards, I'll hold off.

NEW YORK JETS - Mark Sanchez vs. Kellen Clemens
The job will probably go to Sanchez. They made a big gamble in drafting him so high, and it's a choice between two untested QB's anyway.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Shaun Hill vs. Alex Smith vs. Damon Huard

Shaun Hill would appear to be favourite, but I'll say Alex Smith gets one last chance to prove himself before being thrown on the scrapheap.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Byron Leftwich vs. Luke McCown vs. Josh Freeman
I like Leftwich, the job's his. Freeman could be a franchise QB once developed, but he certainly needs some time.

pennington should easily be the starter for miami... he came runner up for MVP last year to peyton manning.....

he will be starter for sure. he may not have one of the biggest arms but he is one of the most accurate and has one of the better completion rates....

I'll buy on Pennington, if he can get a big year out of Ginn Jr. and Fasano. While he's listed #2 on their depth chart at QB, Pat White could end up being a big help to the cause, especially in that wildcat formation.

From what I heard, Rosenfels won the first round of his positional battle with Jackson today. Rosenfels was 10-13 for 91 yards while Jackson was 7/15 for 38 yards.

The Cleveland fans want Quinn (local hero), but I wouldn't count out Anderson. He is a much better scrambler, and can take teams by surprise with that ability.

Vince Young was impressive today apart from one pass. He connected well with rookie Britt and went 4/19 for 131 yards while Collins was 4/9 with 37 yards and 2 interceptions.
