No I think that all the loose forwards did extremely well and dominated the opposition loosies. They all played well as a unit getting around the field and cleaning out rucks and forcing turnovers. Rodney added little when he came on, would have been better off leaving a tired Thompson on

McCaw and Thomson did awesomely, Read was by far the weak link in that loose forward trio.

Cut Read, bring in Messam. Leave Rodney on the bench.

Why would they take off Thompson then if Read was the weak link? Messam is over rated, got outplayed by MJ in the magpies waikato game. Rather have Colin Bourke on the bench

Not Colin Bourke that traitor scum.

I don't know why they took Thomson off, I was questioning that decision. Thomson was definitely better than Read last night.

He only left because the HBRFU treated him like shit, any sane person would have done the same thing.
I questioned why they took a loose forward off because they were dominating the game

Good game from the boys, jane was good on the flank. alot of talk about the backrow here, i think it should be Thompson/McCaw/So'oialo with Kaino on the bench

Worth doing it because I think he is past it and would be interested to see why you think he isn't...

To put it very simply, once Rodney gets his consistency back up (and he will) then he'll be better than Read in all facets of the No.8's role bar the Breakdown turnovers, which Thomson and McCaw can more than handle on their own. Make no mistake that Read is the No.8 of the future, but Rodney still has the goods to last a while longer.

There are some players who are given a really hard time whether they perform good or bad and, when they have bad games they are completely lambasted for it, regardless of how well they play to make up for it. Rodney is a classic example - look at '06/'07 - he had ONE bad game (Rustenburg) which, let's be honest, was an absolute shocker - but he could hardly be singularly blamed for the losss. But then he played his heart out over and over again before and after that, but people kept on saying he was sh!t and cited that 1 game to support their arguments.

Read is good, but not good enough to hold that jersey when Rodney picks himself up again - and he will.

I think that Read is a better ball handler than Rodney though, he has a better understanding of where to be to get into space and is very tough in the pick and go around the fringes

Read plays like an extra 6 - the role of 8 can be very different. He plays a different game to Rodney, one that, with Thomson and McCaw, really is obsolete.

So what would Rodney bring to the team that Read doesn't?

Brains...experience...consistency...hardness...

All things that Read sorely lacks.

Experience is the only one that Read lacks and good to build it now rather than 2011
