If we went a four forward bench he would, but I can't see him knocking Hall, Coops or Johnson out of the starting side, nor Bolton out of the team altogether, I mean he'd be there for sure atm because Coops is playing centre but when we get Tate and Tonga back he'll be back at 12. He'd make a good depth signing but I'm not sure that's what he wants not what he deserves.

Yeah that is for sure mate, would be a blow for the NRL losing Gareth Ellis. It is good having a few Poms in the NRL. He's been great since coming to Aussie, just this season he has been hampered by injury.

Yeah the rumours of Matt King coming back to the Storm are getting stronger and stronger. Apparently if he comes back he won't be on too much cash. If that is the truth then I wouldn't mind seeing him come back. Could help out the young backs that we have - Plenty of them too.

He's 30 now but still got a few years left in him. Could be another option for NSW too, although they have quite a lot of centres to choose from these days. It'd be good to have him back in the NRL anyway.

SOUTH SYDNEY have earmarked Nathan Fien as the man to fill their vacant No.7 jersey next season.

The Sun-Herald can reveal that incoming Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire had initially sounded out his Wigan playmaker, Thomas Leuluai, to replace Chris Sandow next year. Leuluai is keen to return to the NRL for the first time since 2004 and sought permission to leave the Warriors before his contract expired. However, the Super League powerhouse wasn't prepared to grant him an early release.

Maguire still views the New Zealand international as the long-term halfback option for the Bunnies but will have to find a stop-gap solution. Another Kiwi representative, Fien, is seen as the man to fill the void after Sandow agreed to join the Eels. Fien has also been linked with Newcastle.

''I'm contracted for another year here [with the Dragons],'' Fien said. ''I don't really want to play out my future in the papers. I'm just a guy who goes about my business week-in and week-out, tries not to let my mates down. I've got a young family and I've got to look after them as well.''

Fien's manager, Jim Banaghan, has heard about the interest from Redfern but had not been contacted by the club. ''I've definitely heard the rumours, they're quite deafening,'' he said. ''I've heard there's interest from several clubs, from a number of third parties, but as yet no one has spoken to me directly. Unless something special comes forward that requires me to approach St George Illawarra, as far as I'm concerned he's at St George Illawarra next year.''

The Dragons have used Fien predominantly as a hooker off the bench. However, the 31-year-old is a versatile player who has previously shifted into the halves at international level. He has played 21 Tests for the Kiwis. The Rabbitohs are desperate to nail down a halves combination after letting Sandow slip from their grasp. Pivot John Sutton's contract was recently extended, while internal candidates include Adam Reynolds and Malcolm Webster. Greg Inglis could also come under consideration for the No.6 jersey.

The 25-year-old Leuluai began his NRL career at the New Zealand Warriors before playing for Super League clubs Harlequins and Wigan.

Meanwhile, Canberra's in-form halves combination of Sam Williams and Josh McCrone will be given the task of taking the pressure off returning Raiders star Terry Campese, a late inclusion on the bench for today's clash with North Queensland at Canberra Stadium. Representative prop David Shillington (pectoral) could also be a shock addition.
